All
Weekend
See Brick Lane transformed especially for the festival by Rachael
Pengilley, with reference to Henfields own history and the postage
stamp! Rachael is an emerging UK sculptor. She is interested in
site-specific pieces referencing the historical significance of the
spaces in which she exhibits. In 1660, Colonel Henry Bishop, a resident
of Henfield, was appointed by Charles II as the first
Postmaster-General. Therefore Rachael has chosen to create a sculpture
of 100 origami stamps for the Henfield Gardens and Arts weekend.
Delicately
balanced origami birds made entirely from hand-sewn stamps will flock
in the
courtyard on Brick Lane, some perching throughout the new planting
designs created by Roberta Emmott, re-defining and invigorating the
space. 'Stamp Magazine' previewed the installation and you can read the article here.

Food/Hate Waste campaign. For details of all the events at the Tanyard over the weekend click here. And for a list of the exhibitors click here.

St. Peter's School, (venue no. 4), Saturday 13th June.
Janine
Creay, who is exhibiting sculpture at the school, is running 'drop-in'
activity workshops for all ages at the school on Saturday only. People
can make shell forms with wire and plaster or just draw, if that's what
is preferred. The shells can be simple scallop forms with patterns
dropped on or scraped in wet plaster, or more complicated spiral shapes
of whelks and conches. A light hearted, fun activity, or taken more
seriously as the creation of a complete small sculpture. People can
even go away and come back to finish the work later when it is dryer.
Just drop in between 11am and 5pm

New
in 2009 is a Sculpture Trail, with certain houses displaying a variety
of sculptures, to celebrate the 10th anniversary and to recognise the
outstanding contribution that local artist Alison Rankin has made to
the festival in that time. Click here for the trail and a fun quiz - answers will be revealed on this website after the weekend.
